The Pros and Cons of in Person Teaching

In the aftermath of the COVID pandemic that has swept the world during 2020 through 2021, changes have occurred in most every aspect of our lives. This article writes about the advantages and disadvantages of face to face learning in the classroom. As far as advantages are concerned, many students feel more comfortable and learn more easily in a familiar, traditional classroom situation. A students in this environment can access more information and richer understanding through the teacher and other students’ body language and voice. Students are likely to pay more attention and learn without as many distractions.

Students can also take advantage of the supplies available for use in the classroom, which is especially helpful if they don’t have a computer at home. Looking at Virtual learning, scientists looking at the effectiveness of distance learning found that in some studies, distance education students performed slightly better in exams and grades than traditional classroom students, but that the average performance outcomes weren’t that different.

Another Con that is attached to virtual learning is the infra-structural challenge: Initially, there is a lot of
expenditure to set up online classes. In virtual learning environments there is a lack of social and emotional skills that are found in traditional classroom environments.

Discussion from the students perspective, their reflections on their experiences with distance learning and being out of school generally and with what worked and what did not work. Students commented that before distance learning they felt emotionally stable. But once quarantine started they felt emotionally exhausted. Along with that, they commented that they felt angry at things they should not get angry with. A student commented that they would complain about school a lot but now they miss attending school in person, their friend, teachers and attending class.
