1. What are the essential elements of making bell work effective?
A bell work assignment should be simple. No more than a 10 minute assignment. A manageable task for students to work on independently while the teacher completes attendance and other duties at the start of the class. A bell work assignment is procedural and not a rule. The bell work assignment is also specific to the particular class day and where students are on the learning curve of learning targets.
2. Why is it so important to get students working on their assignments right away?
The bell work assignment is important for many reason. Most importantly this assignment starts the class day with student focus and it transitions and motivates students for the lesson plan is to follow. the Ineffective teacher typically squanders the prime time with non productive tasks. This is counterproductive to the success of the following class period. The effective teacher monopolizes the bell work assignment and creates the positive learning environment which leads to a successful learning outcome.
3. What is meant by, “The textbook is not the curriculum.” How do effective teachers use the textbook? How do ineffective teachers use their textbooks?
The textbook is the specific material/ tool that a teacher uses to lead the students to a leaning outcome . The curriculum is the combination of overall subjects ( a textbook relates to one specific subject) that comprise a course of study at a school or university. Effective teachers use textbooks as a resource to stimulate students learning. They combine textbooks with other educational tools like digital audio resources ( You tube, CD’s, Graphic illustrations on overhead projectors) to work together to create positive learning environment sand outcomes. The ineffective teacher relies on textbooks solely to provide student achievement. These teachers struggle on many fronts. They are not capable of combining resources to work in tandem to create a positive learning environment nor to achieve student learning
4. Why is a morning routine important in setting the tone for the school day?
It is simple and common sense, having an early morning routine is the teachers and students commitment to improvement. It means the teacher establish a repetitive routine that sets up a quiet atmosphere and produces a tone for a more organized rest of the day. This cuts down on student stress and anxiety.
