Dealing with Isolation

During the time of the worldwide pandemic of 2020 people from all walks of life have had to confront the reality of feelings of isolation and of being separated from one another. Whether it is isolation and separation from family members, children not attending school or people in the work place having to restructure their work environments and work form home, we all have had to deal with the realities of separation and isolation. Now with the distribution of vaccinations for Covid-19 and with the continued use of face masks and social distancing we will soon emerge from this pandemic and the realities of isolation and separation from one another as a stronger more resilient people.

God was all too familiar and aware of mankind’s adversity to being alone and dealing with isolation from the very beginning. In the book of Genesis, Chapter 2 vs. 18, the Lord God took man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. Ant the Lord God commanded the Man, “You are free to eat of any tree in the garden, but you must not eat form the tree of the knowledge of good and evil., for on the day you eat from it you will certainly die.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is like him.” So the Lord formed out of the ground each wild animal and each bird of the sky, and brought each to the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal.; but for the man no helper was found who was like the man. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh in that place. Then the Lord God made the rib He had taken form the man into a woman and brought her to the man. And the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh, this one will be called woman, for she was taken from man.

Today we have witnessed the advent of technology and the emergence of the internet and social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Snap chat, Instagram and others. We are the beneficiaries of the great technology boom. The main purpose of the web platforms is to connect people with one another and in general bring greater connectivity between people. But these new ways of communicating have also created new degrees of separation and isolation among and between people. You can now sit alone in a room and access online stores, dating sites, informative kiosks and a myriad of different kinds of information. All of this a mere mouse click away. There is also a huge downside to the internet; access to pornography, financial scams and misinformation also a mouse click away.

It is no coincidence that Moses wrote these words about the creation of woman and the Lord witnessing the loneliness of His greatest creation, Man. This was written in the book Genesis centuries before the birth of our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the beginning of the greatest Story ever told. The savior of mankind entering the world. God in the flesh to be crucified for the sins of mankind. When you are reflecting this concept of conquering your fear, turn your thoughts to the book of Genesis and the writings of the prophet Moses.
