What is Mormonism? A Mormon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of the most important things that you should know about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that it is the oldest church in the Western Hemisphere and is recognized as a mainstream religion in the USA and many other parts of the world as well. This church is also recognized as an alternative to organized religion. Some of the more basic Mormon beliefs are as follows: LDS or Mormon is defined as a branch of religion that emphasizes character and missionary work as well as religious education and proselytizing among local communities.
There is also a specific ceremony for getting into the temple but there are no required or written requirements for this ceremony so almost anyone can become a member and participate in the rites of passage like giving of the “ordinance”. LDS or Mormon also emphasizes that marriage is between a man and a woman and that sexual intercourse is reserved for marriage only. Some practice same-sex marriage.
LDS church also emphasize that Jesus is their prophet and that the members of their church have their personal right to receive the revelations and teachings of their prophet. The members of this church believe that revelation was given to Joseph Smith and that he is their living prophet today. There is also a specific Relief Society within the church called the ward. The ward provides a home for those who are not members of the full church and they assist the members of the church in all their lives. There are also a president, counselors, elders, and high priests as well as apostles and seventy.
